Over the weekend I took off for the Island with my parents. It was a short trip, but pleasant. I’m not sure why but I wasn’t really in the picture-taking mood, so I only have a couple photos I took on the Mill Bay ferry.

Around June of last year we were in an antique mall in Chemainus and a couple pieces of bakelite jewelry caught my eye. There was a hinged bangle that I kind of liked but I really fell in love with a green brooch and it was cheaper so that’s what I ended up taking home.

By the time I got home the next day, I had decided that I was absolutely in love with bakelite jewelry and I headed over to ebay to buy some more. I quickly learned that the prices in Chemainus were quite good and I’ve been kicking myself ever since.

Yesterday we returned to the store that started it all and beyond all odds and expectation, the bangle was in the exact same place on the same shelf. I asked for it and the guy said that it had originally come in with a brooch in the same colour but that it had been sold separately. He started trying to describe what it looked like.

“I know,” I said, “the brooch is on my winter coat.”

There was no way I was going home without that bangle a second time.
