murder mystery night

It was murder mystery night at our house. Much silliness ensued, especially with costumes. It was excellent.

The plot was a little convoluted and confusing but surprise surprise, I was the killer and sleeping with the host’s wife. What fun! Let’s do it again!

We ordered Chinese take-out and the place got our order wrong. The amount they charged us seemed really wrong so we called back to confirm and got a new amount which still seemed low. They managed to leave all the vegetable dishes out of our order so now my deep fried meal is kind of sitting heavy in my stomach.

The knowledge of the fictional people I killed weighs on me also. I wonder if I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

Mye wants to learn how to knit so that she can make a hat to show off her love for the Habs. Today the two of us embarked on a journey to find yarn in suitable colours, which was apparently easier said than done, but we eventually found something that will work. We’re going to come up with a pattern together.

Meanwhile I have started making a pair of mittens for a friend’s daughter. They look like goldfish and they’re a lot of fun! Or at least the first one was a lot of fun. I can’t seem to make the second one without making a bunch of mistakes.

We were talking about how weird milk commercials are but how a lot of them lately haven’t been particularly good. But we have agreed that this one is actually pretty awesome.

You don’t need to understand French to appreciate it’s creepiness.

I took out a book at the library that a friend recommended for me. I haven’t read it yet but it smells like soap – the good kind, like ivory snow. Not like public washrooms soap. This can only be a good thing.

It reminds me of the basement of Salamagundi where there are those huge Chinese medicine cabinets full of tchotchkes and things, every drawer a surprise! That place is like a wunderkammer of awesome.

One time we took my sister down there and bought her a little cricket box. You know the kind – it’s cardboard, covered in cheap brocade and inside there are crickets and they chirp. Close the box and the music is gone. Open it up and there it is!

But how does it work? We couldn’t tell. It was magic!

It had a strong soapy odour, not unlike this book.

My sister decided that she wanted to hear the crickets outside her window so she placed the open box outside underneath the pine tree. I wondered how long the cricket sound would last.

After a few days I told her that she should bring it inside. It was going to rain or the thing would get dirty. She wouldn’t and she didn’t. It rained.

Falling from space

I think this is the coolest thing I’ve seen all day. It is footage taken from a camera mounted to a booster rocket that was ejected from a space shuttle. I think I could watch it spin around in the upper atmosphere for a long time.
